"Can you believe it’s almost 25 years to the very day of the planned concert, since we held the first Midsummer Spectacular which attracted just 198 people!..."
“Fast forward to the last concert in 2008 when nearly 4,000 attended and hopefully next year’s event will be bigger and better than ever before – and the perfect way to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Of course in that time much has happened, not least the significant increase in costs associated with staging these types of events, which is why I’m relying on the good folk of the East Riding and beyond, to show their support and make it a runaway success.
We have already received some amazing help from the corporate sector for which we are extremely grateful but there is a long, long way to go before our operational costs are covered and all the monies raised can then go directly to the four Yorkshire based charities we are supporting – The Tribune Trust, WISHH Charity (Working Independently to support Hull Hospitals), the Driffield Agricultural Society and The East Riding Committee of Macmillan Cancer Support.
We have attracted a stellar cast of performers including the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band, the sensational violinist Kate Chruscicka and the East Riding Senior Wind Band. Add to that, a Last Night of the Proms finale and a firework display and you have all the ingredients for a truly memorable night.
Tickets are now on sale and are very reasonably priced in order to make the event as accessible as possible – how about buying them as Christmas presents for family and friends. We all have that person (or persons!) who we spend hours thinking ’what on earth can I buy them?’ perhaps this is your answer – a lovely present that also helps our amazing charities too.
Finally, I can’t finish without a plea, and those of you who know me will expect nothing less. If there are any companies out there who might be able to offer help please, please do get in touch with me either on 07860 111246 or [email protected]. and it’s not one way traffic, we will give something back in return, I promise.”
